On The Scene: Liberty Park...

A few shots I took during my lap around (the mostly empty) Liberty Park. Crews are still working at cleaning up after Salt Lake's own oil spill a few weeks ago. It isn't the Gulf or anything, but for a canyon waterway and a city park lake, 33,000 gallons of oil is pretty damn terrible. Makes me sad. Here's to a speedy recovery Liberty Park.

Love List | June Edition...

A KINKY SECRETARY, A LOST PUSSY(CAT)
and 11 MORE THINGS J'ADORED THIS JUNE
.{ with a snazzy new look! }

1| UTAH PRIDE
Once a year, Utah lets down its hair-bun and hikes up its prairie skirt and allows itself to have a little fun. With over 25,000 people descending on downtown, it is a spike in energy this city doesn't normally experience. (Don't believe everything you hear about Pioneer Day! ) This truly is my favorite day of the year to be living in Salt Lake City, and I look forward to it each and every June; just enjoying the parade, the food, the people (& tattoo) watching, and just celebrating diversity and equality with like-minded friends. Plus this year the weather was amazing. We soooo deserved it after last year!

2| ARCHER: SEASON 1
I had never heard of this FX series until I saw Aisha Tyler pimping on the NewNowNext Awards. It was nominated for Your Favorite Show You Are Not Watching. I was curious and luckily it was available in Netflix: Watch Now. I've always enjoyed Aisha but when I learned that in addition to her, Jessica Walters (aka Lucille Bluth) and Judy Greer (aka Kitty the Whore) also star (vocally, that is)... I was sold. It's highly naughty and totally hilarious. It is indeed my favorite show I wasn't watching. Until now.

3| MIIKE SNOW
Official album of the month.
Played start to end, on heavy repeat.
All month long. Amaziing!

4| MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL
Jake's older sister is one of my favorite actresses today. I crossed two more of her recent and (not-so-recent) flicks off the To See List this month. I started, by finally getting around to seeing her much buzzed role in the 2002 Sundance indie-fave, Secretary, where she played a very naughty assistant. I followed up a few weeks later, with the 2009 movie Crazy Heart, in the role that earned her a well deserved Oscar nomination, as a single mother with poor taste in men. Both roles are very different love stories but Maggs was amazing as usual. I've come to expect nothing less from her. And I'm not just saying it because of her famous Hollywood brother, but if it earns me a few extra bonus points, I'll take 'em!

5| RE: MISSING MISSY
If you haven't seen this (yet) CLICK HERE.
But be prepared to LAUGH! OUT!! LOUD!!! I know I did.
You may also pee your pants a little. ...no comment.

6| ROBYN'S 'BODY TALK Pt. 1'
Yup, the Show Me Love girl is back again, with a kick-ass-body-movin' new album and I love her more than ever! So far my faves are Dancing On My Own, Fembot and last but not least, Don't F**king Tell Me What To Do. (unless of course it's me telling you to rush out and buy this album. Then you have to do it.)

7| HELVETICA
This documentary would probably bore the snot out of 80% of most people. For the other twenty percent, if you're obsessed with fonts as much as I am, it'll be right up your alley. Whoever knew there was so much history behind letters and words that we see and take for granted on a daily basis. You'd be AMAZED at how many logos, signs, brands and corporate identities all use Neue Haas Grotesk, oh, I mean Helvetica! I know I was surprised. I spent the rest of the month playing spot the font noticing this staple in design world. (Hello Target! Hi American Apparel! ) And you can go ahead and add the Love List new logo to that prestigious bunch.

8| MORGAN McMICHAELS LIVE!
For the record, my allegiance still lies with Pandora Boxx, but when I heard that JujuBee (another D.R. fave) would be making an appearance at Club Jam for our Pride-- I knew I'd be in the audience. (Thanks Topher for picking up my ticket! ) Come to find out, one of Ru's other queens made a surprise unscheduled appearance on the main stage. And honeeey, she brought it, didn't f**k it up, and lip-synched like her life depended upon it. By the end of the night I was thinking Juju-who? (Still love ya my little Gaysian) but boy, how did Miss Morgan win me over. If only my camera battery hadn't died early on that night; my only complaint of the evening. She still comes in second to Pandora, but silver is a nice, and goes with everything.

9| MY NEW GLASSES
So, I absolutely love-love my trendy new eyewear!

10| THE CAST OF SEX & THE CITY 2
It wasn't the most amazing movie ever made, did you think it would be? Of course not. Yes, the wedding scene was a little much. I agree! Will it make it into my All Time Favorite Flicks Hall of Fame? Negatory. But it was still great fun to get to re-visit four of my favorite characters; Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte from the beloved HBO series just one more time. Plus, if sexy Smith and adorable Aiden are along for the ride, Michael Patrick King can continue to make all the sequels he wants.

11| JOHNNY DEPP & TIM BURTON
I finally got around to checking out Alice In Wonderland this month. Of course I loved it, but there isn't much from Tim Burton that I don't enjoy. He has made some of my all time favorite movies. I just love his style, his vision and his art direction on every project he does. Then you add Johnny to the equation-- well you can't go wrong. Good thing these to tend to collaborate and share their talents with the rest of us often then, huh? Can't wait to see what these two come up with next.

12| PONYO
Ponyo is a lovely hand-drawn animated Japanese feature from award-winning director Hayao Miyazaki. (It was later released in English for American audiences.) The movie was a hit with the critics, and a hit with me. A modern day telling of The Little Mermaid follows an adorable little 5-year-old boy and a magic goldfish princess. In the age of 3-D and computer generated (not that there's anything wrong with them) it is the simplicity of this movie that I found most charming. And listen up, you're bound to hear a few familiar voices. Liz Lemon, Rose Nylund, Ernestine and Jason Bourne all lend their star power, all without overshadowing the story.

13| TURTLE WAX BUG & TAR REMOVER
The thing I like least about Summer is the drive between my home in the city and my parent's house out in the country. I have to drive along the Great Salt Lake, which means at the end of the day my car looks like it's survived an enormous bug explosion. Countless insects have lost their lives on the front of my Trooper. When I first used this product I was skeptical, However, to my surprise with only minimal elbow grease, my ride came out looking fantastic without a sign of the apocalypse that occurred on its surface earlier.

Cake Monster...

One Year Later...

My how time flies!

Happy Birthday Sadester...

My Girls & My Boys...

Since there is no Uncle's Day (I mean, come-on, WTF?!) here I am with my girls (and my boys.) The closest to Daddyhood I may get. so, Happy "Not-Father's" Day to me.

Dad...

I just wanted to thank my dad for all that he has done for me over the years. He is a hard worker and has wonderfully provided for his family. The older I get the more I recognize and honor his efforts. We are very different people in many ways, but those differences don't matter in the end. I love and appreciate my him. Happy Father's Day Dad!

Drag U...

My Dad and my brother both drag race; they've been doing it for years. Sadly, I've never made it to the track to watch them in action (and show my support.) So I decided the best Father's Day present I could give would be to venture out to Rocky Mountain Raceway to spend a warm and windy Saturday with the family. There was a lot of waiting around, thankfully the motor home helped out with the boredom that came between races. They both did well, I'm pretty sure they both ended up wining some money. (Until they went head to head and Marty knocked out my Dad) So, final thoughts: Even though it's not my scene at all, well-- actually I think my Facebook status said it best...
(and don't tell anyone, but I actually enjoyed myself-- even the ridiculous fire-breathing racing Semi trucks. I might have to go back again, once my hearing is restored. And this time I'll bring ear plugs.)

GO DAD!

GO MARTY!
