LoveList: July Edition...

Nathan Fielder is a business advisor who implements strategies that no traditional consultant would dare attempt. Whether it’s creating a coffee shop called Dumb Starbucks, inventing a poo-flavored yogurt or staging an elaborate video where a pig saves a goat, no idea is too daring.  And while Nathan’s efforts may not always succeed, they always have big results. This is Nathan For You.

Last month Lana Del Rey's Ultra Violence was on a constant loop.
...This month (shy) Sia took that honor.
I'd include my favorite tracks but that means I'd just be listing all of them.
Lana's got some competition for My Album of the Year.

In this sci-fi epic from director Bong Joon Ho, a failed global-warming experiment kills off most life on the planet. The final survivors board the SNOWPIERCER, a train that travels around the globe via a perpetual-motion engine. When cryptic messages incite the passengers to revolt, the train thrusts full-throttle towards disaster.

And for the record, an unrecognizable Tilda Swinton as Minister Mason is... EVERYTHING.

Earlier this year I bought a juicer for about sixty bucks from Target.  I absolutely hated it. It was messy, time consuming, wasteful, a produce hog-- and it was messy.  Thankfully (well, minus being out $60) the motor blew out after one day's use.  Flash forward to July when I bit the bullet and purchased the Blendtec Total Blender from Costco.  Yes it was more expensive but I'm beyond happy with it.  It's a beast.  It's been used constantly since I got it. Sometimes going cheap isn't the best route.  Lesson learned. Now who wants a green smoothie?!

The Hulu series takes you inside the uber-exclusive and glamorous world of six hot housewives in Central Florida's sexiest city, Orlando.  It follows the ladies as they fight over pretty much everything except for their love of shoes, plastic surgery, and the pursuit of spending all of their husbands' money.  The reality show parody is still less ridiculous than the Housewives it so brilliantly spoofs.  "You just need to Calm Down" and check it out.

Brit Karl Pilkington has led a sheltered life. Not having done any traveling, he enjoys living within the comforts of what he knows, basically that being what is purely British. As such, his friends, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, decide to send Karl to various parts of the world to experience unfamiliar cultures. Stephen believes that travel is a life broadening venture, and hopes that Karl will indeed feel like his life is enriched by these travels. Ricky, however, hopes that Karl will hate every minute of his travels. For Ricky, this experiment is the most expensive gag for his own pleasure that he could have conceived.  Karl Pilkington's Seven Wonders Of The World er, An Idiot Abroad is available on Netflix streaming.

I've never taken advantage of Trolley Manor's outdoor living space-- as illustrated by the discarded dusty old futon that's been dumped on it's front porch for years now.  This Summer I tossed it to the curb and picked up a couple adirondack chairs with a small table.  It's been my favorite spot this month to listen to music (between the fireworks), enjoy some late night wine or just avoid fighting cats.  Or all of the above.

Up and coming fashion designers, talented special effects makeup artists and a bunch of people hanging out in a fake house for a few months.  Summer Reality television is here! Crank the AC and enjoy your guilty TV pleasures until Fall.

In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth's dominant species.' - Fox

I guess I didn't technically listen to Sia 24/7 this month. I did get to check out the wonderful new album Life is Easy from Bright Light Bright Light on Spotify.  Another great soundtrack to my month.  Favorite tracks include:  All I Ever Wanted, I Wish We Were Living, I Believe and More Than Most.

"Into her late 80s, Broadway legend Elaine Stritch remained as ferociously funny as ever. In this bold, hilarious and poignant portrait, the uncompromising Tony and Emmy Award-winner is revealed both on and off stage. Candid reflections about her life are punctuated with words from friends (including James Gandolfini, Tina Fey, John Turturro, and Nathan Lane) and archival footage that showcases some of the great moments from her career. Whether dominating the stage, tormenting Alec Baldwin on the set of 30 Rock, or sharing her struggles with aging, diabetes and alcoholism, Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me reaches beyond the icon's brassy exterior and reveals an inspiring portrait of a complex woman and artist." -IFC   Available on Netflix streaming.  Here's to the ladies who lunch.  Rest in Peace Elaine Stritch.

Dr. Rachel Walton took great care of my Mo.
If you're local, I totally recommend this Veterinary Hospital.

Be My Guest...

No better way follow-up post-birthday out-of-town getaway than to have a long time friend James have an all day layover in my home-city.  We met up with Jeremy, and hit up all the usual spots.  Lunch at Ruths Diner, site-seeing downtown and drinks at the Sun Trapp. What a fun Monday indeed.  Ya'll come back now, ya hear!

My Mo...

I had noticed my boy Mo seemed to be lethargic and drooling for a few weeks, so I took him to the vet only to discover some sad news.  Several of his teeth were in need of being pulled.  Mo got praise from the vet (and technicians) for being a handsome and a brave good kitty.  And then we got home, when the real challenges began...
