Love List | February Edition...

Drag Racers, Roller Derbies-- Even Some Football (!!)
Plus 11 More Things That Were Fierce This February.

1. The Cove
This much buzzed about documentary is part heart-pounding thriller/part heart-breaking expose on Japan's dark little secret. I put off checking it out for months, not knowing if I could handle the heavy subject matter. The Cove is phenomenal though. It stuck with me for days after viewing it. My thoughts still remain; I've never been so disgusted by human kind and at the same time slightly hopeful for those individuals who are brave enough to step up, risk it all and create change. And may this movie stop the careless dolphin slaughter once and for all!

2. Betty White
She reminded us all why we love her so much in last year's The Proposal. Then came the funniest commercial of the Super Bowl, which had me rolling with each (repeat) viewing. February really was the month of Betty. With all this attention, I went back and revisited some vintage Golden Girl episodes too. Man I forgot how funny that show was. Really ground breaking show, it really was Sex and the City: Seniors Edition. Next stop for Rose Nylund, hosting SNL (fingers crossed.) For the record, I was a Facebook fan before it was trendy, with about 20,000 fans, now its approaching half a million. Team Betty!! (Somewhere Ryan Reynolds is cursing.)

3. Vancouver, BC
Sure tuning into all the Olympic competition is great-- but my favorite part of the 2010 Winter Games is just revisiting one of my all-time favorite travel destinations, once again. (Who cares if they're having snow & weather problems... oh yah, probably the athletes.) Anyway, I fell in love with Vancouver when I visited back in 2005. A metropolitan city filled with gleaming glass high rises, surrounded by postcard worthy mountains and water. I'm glad the rest of the world is getting the opportunity to experience its beauty, even if it is only through their high-def television sets. Plus its Olympic mascots, are pretty damn adorable, eh?

4. Drag Race's Pandora Boxx
(and Jujubee)

It's a big job to fill the heels of last season's favorite's Nina Flowers and Ongina but my two early favorite queens of Season 2 are easily Pandora Boxx(!!) (#1) and also Jujubee in runner-sup status. (#2). Out of all the girls they've got the best charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent to take home the crown. [Don't worry, I'll be butchin' it up soon. See #14]

5. Red Velvet Cake Cookies
These Valentine's Day treats didn't help my diet this month, but boy were they tasty. A bit too tasty! Mmmmmmm!

6. "A Grand Don't Come For Free"
by The Streets

Yet another musical gem on my radar, thanks to my e-friend [who shares his name with a brand of sneakers.] The Street's 2004 sophomore offering is a concept album written over the course of a year; from losing a thousand pounds, the start of a new relationship, going on holiday, breaking up, and eventually finding the grand again. I'm in love with Dry Your Eyes Mate. (Yet another British obsession. Further proof I lived in the UK in a previous life!)

7. Courtney Yates
Survivor China's second runner-up, and self proclaimed "non-threat" (and my newest Facebook friend) is back for Survivor: Heroes vs Villains. (YAY!) Which places me promptly on Team Villains. Taking a walk back down on memory lane, I used to be a huge Survivor fan. My friends and I even threw viewing parties during Season 1. (Not to mention that somehow Survivor: The Board Game made it into our house.) But after a few seasons of voting people off the Island, I had moved on. That is until curiosity got the best of me. Tuning in to follow fellow Utahn Todd on the China edition. I got hooked again, thanks mostly in part to this sassy New Yorker. She cracks me up, and I adore her. Go Courtney!

8. Kia Sorento's
Superbowl Commercial

Favorite commercial of the Superbowl, Part I
Toys Gone Wild! Highlight: Sock monkey getting "inked".
See it HERE.

9. Google's Superbowl Commercial
Favorite commercial of the Superbowl, Part II
Simple, sweet and lovely.
Is it okay to tear up at Superbowl commercial?!

10. Romy & Michele's
High School Reunion
No, you didn't take a time machine back to Love List Circa '97-- thanks to the convenience of Netflix's Watch Now feature, I got reacquainted with R&MHSR this month. It has been ages since I watched this flick and I'd forgotten how much I love it. (Why do I not own this on DVD? Good question!) Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow are like, totally delightful. So write yourself a reminder (perhaps on a Post It) and re-check out this funny blast from the past. Okay?

11. Hoarders
I'm addicted to A&E's strangely fascinating series that follows real life compulsive hoarders who are challenged to de-clutter and break their bad habits. It's like a car crash that you can't turn away from. A really, really messy car crash. Plus, knowing people in your personal life who fit the hoarding profile, makes it all the more real. And for those of us non-hoarders-- it is probably the best motivation to pick up a Swiffer to get cleaning!

12. SOUR's Music Video for
日々の音色
(Hibi no neiro)
My favorite viral vid of the month has to be the "how'd they do that?" web cam themed music video for the Japanese band SOUR. All I can say is, mad chops to the editors and their endless amounts of patience in putting this together. Check it out for yourself, see it HERE.

13. Whip It
Who doesn't love roller derby?
Who doesn't love roller derby AND Kristen Wiig?

14. New Orlean's Saints
This may or may not come as a surprise (probably the later) but I'm not the biggest sports fan. When the Super Bowl rolls around I usually route for the city I'd rather visit. And given the choice of Indianapolis or New Orleans, that answer is easy. Big Easy! But this year it really was a no-brainer to jump on the Who Dat bandwagon and cheer with the rest of America as the Saints took home the trophy. Isn't it great when the underdogs, step it up and make us proud! Geaux Saints!!
