LOVELIST: January Edition...

You know I've been talking about the great 2012 Trolley Manor Kitchen makeover for months now; but I've put off sharing photos until it was all done.  A few weeks ago, we put on the finishing touches with the  glass tile backsplash. So, voila!  I am completely in love with my apartment's transformation.  I can almost barely remember how it used to look.  It's even got me excited to use it more and actually start cooking.  So ya, know it's a big deal.  A full kitchen remodel with before and after galleries coming in the very near future.  Promise!

After a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.  Silver Linings Playbook is the flick that I'm rooting for come Oscar night!

In my favorite reality competition shows hall of fame feature drag queens and tattoo artists and chefs (oh my!) fighting to take home the prize (and big check)... and the newest gang to join them are special effects makeup artists!  Showing off their mad skills in this Syfy competition, a group of prosthetic makeup artists compete against each other to create prostheses such as those found in science fiction and horror films. Their talent is out of this world and the transformations are incredible.  I love Face Off.  Now in it's 4th Season, why did it take me so long to check it out?

I'm not the only one who loved the Crawley clan (and their help) this month, my mom also got hooked on the show!  The only problem with Season 3,  is I'm not watching them in marathon fashion, and have to wait a week at a time to get my Downton fix.  Masterpiece Classic, indeed!

My two favorite Hollywood funny ladies, uh this is a no-brainer.  Ms. Poehler and Ms. Fey were brilliant emceeing this years Golden Globes. (See!) Can they please co-host everything from now on, and forever? In related  Globe news Darcy St. Budge and Damian Francisco were totally robbed!

In Frankenweenie, young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences...

Tim Burton + Stop Motion Animation= Instant Favorite!

This season, the girls are almost getting it kind of together.

I stumbled across these two documentaries on a boring Saturday night this month.  I didn't think  I would enjoy either of them, but I found my self intrigued and hooked on their compelling stories.  The Queen of Versailles follows David and Virginia, billionaire couple as they begin construction on an enormous mansion (inspired by Versailles, the would be largest home in America.)  During the next two years, their empire, fueled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis.  It's fascinating, funny, infuriating all at the same time.  Cleanflix, (something I'm very familiar with as it's set in my home state) follows a small Utah-based edited movie company caught sanitizing Hollywood's copyrighted material, and the film industry strikes back with a devastating blow. They both follow the rise and fall of some interesting characters, and both are worth checking out; available on Netflix: Instant Watch.

Yes, I know that Season 3 just debuted on IFC, but I don't have IFC. (Boo!) But don't fret (too much), Season 2 started airing this month on Netflix: Instant Watch... and I DO have that! So I got to head back to the Rose City for some marathon viewing and visit some of the most beloved kooky characters on TV.  Fred and Carrie are true geniuses.  Brilliant, creative and as confirmed by the most recent Rolling Stone issue, two of today's Funniest people!  PDX or Bust!

UPDATE: I found Season 3 on my parent's On Demand, so now I'm all caught up and ready for more!

Happy Halloween!

So let's have a my-team recap, shall we?  A few months ago the San Francisco Giants won the 2012 World Series.  (Yes!)  Now, flash-forward to pigskin season, and my 49ers are in the upcoming Super Bowl.  Man, can I pick winners or what?  (Surprising many that I've actually been watching football.)  It's much more fun when you have official teams to root for.  Go Niners!

I completely stumbled across this re-airing of when Matt Damon took over JKL.
I'm glad ABC played it again in primetime.  I laughed my ass off.
Watch it HERE (while you can.)

Admittedly Seth MacFarlane's Ted wasn't as hilarious as I had set it up to be in my mind. (It was no Bridesmaids!)  Still, I enjoyed this raunchy tale of a foul mouthed furry best friend.  As the result of a childhood wish, John's teddy bear came to life and has been by his side ever since.  It was funny and had some great lines.  Plus Mila Kunis makes anything better.

Thanks for the recommendations of the two Netflix movies, Queen of Versailles and Cleanflix. I don't think I'd have chosen either one had I not seen your blog.

Queen was amazingly good movie about an incredibly draw dropping couple. If Mr Seigle (sic?) hadn't been in the news for threatening to fire employees if Obama was re elected I would have thought this was a work of fiction.
