HBO's newest dramedy Looking follows the experiences of three friends (Patrick, Agustin and Dom) living and looking for love in modern-day San Francisco. It's been compared to Sex and the City and Girls, which could be fair... but this series takes place on the other coast-- in a city I simply adore, so I was basically hooked before it even started. While they're all looking. I'll be watching.
"Falling in love is a crazy thing to do. It's kind of like a form of socially acceptable insanity.
"Set in Los Angeles, slightly in the future, Her follows Theodore Twombly, a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet "Samantha," a bright, female voice, who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the unique perspective of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world."
Remember last month's Love List when reiterated how I love Reality TV shows featuring battling tattoo artists and competitive drag queens (respectively)... So, I forgot to mention that I also really dig those crazy talented Hollywood special effects make-up artists as well! It's amazing what they can do with some foam latex and a spray paint brush.
Poopaye!
The first disc of Orphan Black sat on my table in it's unopened red envelope for a month. (Talk about getting my Netflix money's worth!) I finally got around to checking out this much raved about BBC series, about a bunch of clones played by the same actress. Tatiana Maslany is amazing as she brings Sarah, Beth, Alison, Cosima, and Helena to life on screen. Half way through the season and I'm hooked! Season 2 is just around the corner, and I can't wait!
Did you catch this utterly charming and funny Frozen medley viral video this month? Well, then like me, you met Youtuber's Mitch and (super cute) Scott. You might also recognize them from Pentatonix, if you're a big a cappella fan. I've been addicted to their channel ever since.
Two of my favorite artists released new singles this months and let's just say I've been obsessed. Lana's hauntingly beautiful cover for the upcoming Maleficent and Kylie's new and faaabulous dance tune have been playing on a steady repeat since they leaked online. LISTEN to Once Upon a Dream and Into The Blue now! Like I said, OBSESSED!
This month I popped my Indian Cuisine cherry at a popular local eatery.
Vegetable Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi and Garlic Naan-- get into my belly!
Why did it take me this long? Delicious!
Nom nom nom.

My new morning routine.
Everyone knows that I was obsessed with The Real World growing up in the 90's! (The Boston Firehouse... The Seattle slap... New Orleans' Danny, Hello!) But as the show got trashier and I grew older, I've attempted to fully break up with it, but (don't judge) have remained a semi-closeted viewer. And of course those sneaky producers having the seven strangers return to my beloved San Francisco (Finally see the underlying theme yet this month?) sucked me in for yet another season. Even with it's blatant gimmicky exe's moving in twist, I'm still tuning in to watch what happens when people stop being polite, and start getting real(-ish.)
Full Disclosure: I really enjoyed Captain Phillips, I did. I found it suspenseful and entertaining and I thought Tom Hanks did a really good job in the lead role. But after hearing about all the controversy in real life, a voice in the back of my head I kept saying He really wasn't like that and He wasn't a hero, he causes this whole mess... but yes I will fully admit that the movie's version of events was worth watching, and I still recommend it! |
