Never in a million years......
Based on a true story, Dallas Buyers Club follows Dallas electrician and part-time rodeo bull rider Ron Woodroof. The stereotypical straight redneck parties hard, does drugs and has lots of unprotected sex; and consequentially is diagnosed with AIDS during the early days of the outbreak in 1985... and given one month to live. The racist and homophobe creates an unlikely alliance and friendship as he works around the system to help AIDS patients get the medication the need to survive. The performances are incredible. Without question, both Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto(!) deserve Oscar nominations for their transformations on screen. This film reminds me of how scary it must have been to live during this time. Put this on your must see list, if it's not already there.
If you know me, you know I love any reality TV show competitions featuring either drag queens or tattoo artists! Since I have to wait until February for the debut RPDR (Gagging!) it's a good thing that Oxygen's Best Ink started back up this month to fill the void. There are some incredible artists this season, so tune in as they go head to head to take home the prize of Best Ink. Bzzzzzzzzzzz. Bzzzzzzzzz.
I took the girls to go see Frozen on our Big Christmas Date Night with Uncle Casey. By now everyone in the world has been put under it's magical icy spell. It's such a fun Disney classic. I loved it! Do you want to build a snowman?
Sure, there was a lot of Christmas tunes enjoyed this month, but that doesn't mean there wasn't time to discover some new favorites as well! South-African-born Brooklyn-based musician St. Lucia was a great new addition to my Spotify playlists, and was on heavy repeat (especially post-holidays!) A few favorite tracks from his latest album When the Night include: The Night Comes Again, Elevate, Wait For Love and Closer Than This.
Santa brought a special early delivery for Christmas all the way from the Bluegrass State! Well actually a bunch of helper elves are the ones who contributed to make this visit possible. It sure was nice to have a good friend home for the holidays for the whole week. We all missed him so much.
If you're an American Horror Story fanatic (like myself), you may recognize this tune from several of Coven's promotional teasers. This month I stumbled upon the entire beautiful song, I was instantly obsessed. So freaking beautiful. Listen to it HERE. Replay. Replay. Replay.
Santa or No Santa...
And behold, some new Christmas classics were born.
And my awesome holly jolly Holiday Spotify playlist was grateful.

Between my Grandma's post-funeral luncheon, my family's Christmas dinner and the batch I whipped up for my friend's Holiday brunch (although I actually re-named mine 'Party Potatoes' years ago, and are still the tastiest; I added sweet potatoes this batch!) -- this delicious Utah staple wound up on my plate several times. Second helpings... and thirds later, I'm pretty sure I ate my weight in cheesy starchy goodness over the past month. And enjoyed every bite!
This English singer/songwriter was my second new music discovery of the month. I've been hearing her name mentioned on Facebook, but only recently gave her a listen. There sure were a lot of great music that I've enjoyed this month. Between Christmas playlists, St. Lucia, a Coven commercial and a fierce drag queen... I'm glad there was still room for this young talented Brit. Favorite tracks include: You (Ha Ha Ha), Set Me Free, So Far Away and What I Like.
Of course all the standard Holiday themed movies were in heavy rotation all month long. [See: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Love Actually, A Christmas Story, Elf, Home Alone, Bad Santa] but after an accidental search on Youtube I stumbled upon another holiday classic from my childhood that had been overlooked for yearrrrrrrrs. (Does that age me?) So glad I found it online. Christmas nostalgia at it's best! Know what I mean Vern? Watch it HERE.
Ohhhhhh, I'm a RuGirl
How many days again until Season 6 debuts?
(NSFW... But what would you expect from Sharon Needle's ex?)
Chocolate chip cookies. Souvenir bells. Cozy homemade blankets. Rolls. Santa on Christmas Eve. Red carpet in the old house. Blue carpet in the new. Grape juice for breakfast. Yellow 80's VW Bug. (I crashed as a tot). Chotchkies everywhere. Fuller Brush for sale. Pepsis. Push pops. Her voice. Her smell. Her hugs.
Thanks for all the happy memories Grandma.
Love, Lucky Louie
