Okay, confession time: I have a huge girlcrush on one Miss Emma Stone! (Don't worry, she's legal!) I've enjoyed her growing and impressive resume. With memorable supporting roles in Zombieland, SuperBad and the House Bunny-- I was thrilled to see her starring as Olive in the comedy Easy A. I just had to see it in theaters. (No waiting for Netflix on this one!) I really think she has the 'it' factor to have a long career in Hollywood. Her fellow actors, Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson are delightful as Olive's loving parents. And there's some other eye candy as well. Oh and whoa, my fave, Lisa Kudrow as a high school councilor, well that is just the cherry on top of a delightful movie that earned an easy 'A' this month!
The leaves are changing colors and the temperatures are dropping (well it should be getting cooler, in theory anyway.) This means only one thing-- the new Fall TV Season is finally upon us. It's time to reunite with my pals Liz Lemon, Michael Scott, Dexter Morgan, Sue Sylvester, Tyra (shh!) and those adorable Pritchetts. Oh gang, how I've missed you. Welcome back!
Soundtrack of the month. It's like Body Talk, Part I.
Only Awesomer.
Only Awesomer.
This season of Dexter was so bloody phenomenal, it totally made me forget about the prior so-so Season 3. A lot of the credit goes to guest star John Lithgow as the creepy-ass serial killer (and Dexter nemesis) Trinity. He played that role to per-fec-tion and thus creeped the bejesus out of us. Of course, Michael C. Hall was also great, as usual. I'm happy to report I've turned quite a few people onto this show. (my calling in life) I'm so glad that I won't have to wait long for season 5. (It just started Sunday!!) And my love of this show may have inspired a certain Halloween costume this year. Stay tuned. I know I am!
Arrested Development. The Office. 30 Rock. Flight of the Conchords. The Comeback... and now, Modern Family. Season One made it's rightful place into my DVD drawer Hall of Fame. Ideal for repeat viewing. You're in good company. You'll feel right at home with your hilarious neighbors! And I look forward to watching you over and over, like I do with all my other beloved classic comedies! Laugh. Out. Loud.
Two critically acclaimed documentaries (that were on my radar for months) finally made their way to my Netflix mailbox this month. This Film is Not Yet Rated and 8:TMP took a deep look into some controversial topics. They both stirred up a mixture of emotions in me, both good and bad; frustration, anger, sadness and hope. The signs of great documentaries. I commend the little guys for bringing these stories to the screen the recommend that you check them out too. Wisdom is power.
A talented band + An IKEA gift card x Some talented pooches - Any real special effects = One of the coolest music videos I've seen all year! Check it out for yourself! (How'd they do that?!)
As we pretty much wrap up a wha-wha-2010 (where the hell did this year go?!) I've been on a crusade to make it a memorable one (in a good way) And thus Salvage2010®©™ was born. Which translated to a lot of time and money spent on Southwest.com this month, as I booked not one, but two fall getaways for later this year. I think Southwest is a great airline and I pretty much fly them exclusively. Yay for low fares and free bags. So bring on October and November. I've got a year to salvage-- and only three months to do it!
This website CRACKS! ME! UP! It's not your grandma's greetings (or your mother's, or probably your older sibling's for that matter.) Snarky, sometimes dirty but always funny, it's the best way to wish your buds a Happy Birthday, a quick Thank You or an I'm Sowwy message. [Great for Facebook wall postage.] And if your feeling extra witty (like yours truly) you can try your luck at making your own e-cards. Check it out!
The hotel where I work has been going through some updates recently. The the 8th floor got a head-to-toe makeover and is the prototype for what the rest of the guest halls will soon look like. Improved more than words can say! I love it, and the guest response has also been positive. We're movin' on up... slowly, but moving on up none the less!
