Ten Terrific Highlights

From My So-So January.

1. Avatar at IMAX in 3D

I was probably one of the last people on Earth to visit the magical planet of Pandora, but it was well worth the wait. The visuals were amazing and I equally enjoyed seeing it in 3D. But the story is what resonated with me. There's many a great lessons we can learn from the Na'vi people. I loved it! I might have been hesitant on going to see the 'blue cat movie', I'm glad I did. And can't wait to venture back soon!

3. Big Love's New Opening Credits

A Mormon friendly casino! A power shift at Juniper Creek!! A run for Utah State Senate!?!! Those are just a few of the teaser's we've been promised in the fourth season of my favorite television drama. The Hendrickson's are back but as we know, things are never smooth for Bill and his wives. Hold tight indeed! And honestly I never really liked the God Only Know's ice capades opener of Seasons 1-3. However, I fully embrace and love their new 'falling' credits. I think they harken back to another HBO favorite, very Six Feet Under-ish vibe. See them HERE. Don't chya agree?

4. Asian Isle

Earlier in the month (when I was turning a blind eye to my caloric intake) I stumbled on this Chinese Take Out joint a few blocks from my house. Sorry Kowloon's, I have a new go-to-joint (that doesn't involve driving to West Valley) for my sweet and sour chicken fix. Too bad I'm NOW paying the consequences for my Asian binge a few weeks back. 5. Skins (Series 1 & 2)

Skins is a racy English tele series that focused on a bunch of naughty (and when I say naughty, I mean NAUGHTY) British teens and their crazy drama filled lives. If you thought your high school years were rough--Tony, Sid, Michelle, Anwar, Jal, Chris (and my two favorites Maxxie and Cassie) make them seem like a walk in the park. Highly addictive, and controversial it focused on such taboo subjects as anorexia, disfunctional families, teen pregnancy and death. If your up for it, you should totally check Skins out! [TVMA]

6. My Heating Pad

January was not a good month for my back. A pinched nerve(s) and more knots than I'd like to count resulted in a good chunk of the month vegging on the couch with my heating pad. Good thing I had some great Netflix entertainment (see #4, #6) to pass the time.

7. Pushing Daisies on DVD

The facts were these, I always wanted to watch Pushing Daisies when it originally aired but never did. And then it had to go an get cancelled after only two seasons. (Too bad Ned couldn't touch the series and bring it back to life-- but that would have risked another favorite show getting the ax. 30 Rock can't take any such chances.) Confused? Well Pushing Daisies is the tale of a pie maker (Ned) who magically can bring people back to life with the simple touch, but consequentially someone else will drop dead in their place. The show is a vivid colorful (see the photo above for proof) fun television series, plus you can never go wrong when your cast includes Kristin Chenoweth as the delightful Olive.

8. Sandra Bullock

While I still haven't yet seen The Blindside (it's more of a Netflix kind of a flick) I have thoroughly been enjoying Ms. Bullock's media tour promoting it. She's always been one of my favorite actresses. She is such a lovely down-to-earth genuine and fun person. I mean, how many A List actresses would get a chola makeover on a talk show? Sandy's definitely someone I'd be B.F.F.'s with in real life!

9. Banksy

With his documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop" being featured at the Sundance Film Festival, Park City and possibly Salt Lake City began showing signs that the mysterious artist/tagger was leaving his mark in my home state. [The photo above appeared over night on a Park City coffee shop wall.] I've always loved his work, his creativity and his message. This was just a nice reminder of how much that is the case.

10. Pink's Grammy Performance

of "Glitter in the Air"

While I was eagerly looking forward to Lady Gaga and Elton John's performance (which WAS great!) it was Pink's show stopper "Glitter in the Air" that blew me away. Watch it HERE. Pink is, and has always been one of my favorite artists. She's a natural, and could teach a few of these youngsters how to put on a great live performance. (*Cough Saylor Twift *Cough) I mean come-on, hanging upside down, nearly naked, spinning and wet-- WHILE ACTUALLY SINGING! Best. Of. The. Night! (And she looked SMOKIN' hot too!)
