Flight of the Conchords...

It seems like an eternity since we purchased our FOTC tickets. Talk about a long wait... but the blessed day finally arrived. After dinner at Squatters with Candace, Jason, Ryleigh, Kim and myself, we met up with Scott, Jenn, Carri, BJ and Eric (who were a couple rows behind us). It was also nice seeing my two former roommates Steve and Kurt (and his wife Krista.) It was quite the mini-reunion. Unfortunately there was not much time for catching up, there was a full night of comedy to be enjoyed.

Arj Barker (who also appears on the HBO series) kicked it off with a hilarious NSFW-laugh-out-loud opening act. Then with some cheap robot costumes and some laser lights Bret and Jemaine took the stage to the overwhelming cheers of the crowd. I managed to snag a few good shots, although most turned out blurry. The charming New Zealand duo did not disappoint, performing some of my favorite's such as Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor, I'm Not Crying [It's Just Raining On My Face], Albi the Racist Dragon and Tears of a Rapper... along with many more. Oh and how could I forget about Business Time? The show was amazing, I was sad when I realized it was over but entirely worth the wait! Roll on the floor laughter, good friends and of course Bret and Jemaine. What a night!

I was moving the TV cabinet in the living room and stumbled across Mo and Mit's hidden treasure. I should move furniture out more often.  You never know what you might find.

Happy Mother's Day...

I want to wish my beautiful Mom a Happy Mother's Day! She is the definition of a mother's love. If you notice on the picture above, she's sporting a major gash on her nose. Upon learning of my birth and being overcome with joy she collided with a door on her way to share the news with my Dad. (I think it may have even required stitches.) She waited a long time and suffered indescribable heartache to start her family. My parents were both 30 by the time I came along. That's pretty old to be starting out by Utah standards. I know I found the right parents for me even though we are different on many levels. Thankfully we are able to put those aside and show up in each other's lives. I admire her for her selfless and kind spirit. She puts her family above her self and just wants her children to be happy. I wish her all the joy in the world. Today i honor her for the woman she is and the mother she has been to me. I love you Mom!

Goin' Green...

My friend Jake is a Wicked fanatic, like a good percentage of most Utahns. It is quite pop-u-lar in these parts. People lined up around for blocks and they sold out almost immediately. Garrett managed to snag some extra tickets originally planned for Jake's parents until they found out it was a Sunday performance. Their loss my (and Tonya's) gain.

The actors were superb, not a bad performance in the bunch. I especially loved the stage production and overall stage design. I'm a sucker that kinda thing. It is nice to have a cultured day on the town every once in a while. Speaking of, I'm thinking about checking out Avenue Q and Lion King when they come later this year. But I recommend checking out Wicked if you ever get the opportunity.

So Meaty...

I was listening to Radio from Hell's annual all-day show on Friday. They were broadcasting from the new Wise Guys comedy club at Trolley Square. I made a comment to my co-worker that I hoped Joel McHale would visit, because I know he's had shows at Ogden's Wise Guys in the past. Shila heard a rumor that he was coming to Salt Lake. A little research later we found out that tickets actually went on sale that morning. Intantly purchased a ticket for myself and one for Shila. 7th row baby! It's now the offical Summer of Funny. Flight of the Conchords in May. Joel McHale in June. Can't wait to see what--or should I say who, July brings!

Brylee Watch 4/21...

I took the day off of work to head out to Grantsville for some playtime with my Bubbas. We both have been suffering from Spring fever and it was fun soaking up sunshine in the above normal temperatures. (Even when we were playing mom and dad driving in the hot car). I also got to check out her new big wheel. (I can't tell you how obsessed I was with my big wheel when I was her age). We even had a picnic outside, until the bee came. Yah, this beats work any day! Although I'm pretty sure it's way more tiring.

Love List: Spring Edition...

Two new sitcoms, two Republicans(!) and 11 other (non-April Fools Day) things that are super this Spring.

1. Better Off Ted

This is my new favorite comedy this year! (Sorry Parks and Recreation, you'll have to settle for runners-up status.) As the tightly wound boss, Portia De Rossi is hee-larious, and the rest of the cast is equally charming and delightful. Don't get me started on those Veridian Dynamics commercials. Genius! You better start watching to keep this from falling into the TV graveyard of shows gone-way-too-soon ala Portia's other sitcom Arrested Development. (Which I still haven't fully forgiven you for not supporting but you can make it up to me now by supporting B.O.T.)

2. Slumdog Millionaire

So I didn't get to see this before it took home a boat-load of Oscars, but since then, I was able to check it out both on the big and small screen. It's rare that flicks can live up to so much hype, but in the case of Slumdog, it truly did. A lovely feel-good movie that deserves all the attention it has achieved. It is hard to believe that it was almost released straight to DVD. It's even harder to fathom why it was Rated R. WTF!? (The Dark Knight was rated PG-13 people, is it just me or is this totally backward?!)

3. Liberty Park

Finally Spring is here! Living a couple blocks from one of Salt Lake's best parks has it's perks. Great for jogging and people watching. And be sure to check out the drum circle on Sundays while enjoying some sun from the top of the hill.

4. Sunshine Cleaning

I've come to the conclusion that I enjoy movies with "Sunshine" in the title. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind is my all time favorite flick. And who doesn't love Little Miss Sunshine? Well Sunshine Cleaning did not disappoint mostly because of the strength of lead actresses Amy Adams and Emily Blunt. The story of two sisters starting their own business of crime scene clean up is a must see much like the Sunshines that have come before it.

5. Parks and Recreation

I don't want to hear you bitching about how the premiere wasn't that funny. If you like The Office and 30 Rock, this is a perfect fit for NBC's Thursday night comedies. Amy Poehler can do no wrong. I'll be there weekly supporting her cause to turn that dangerous hole into a lovely neighborhood park. And who doesn't support parks... well apparently quite a few. Good luck Leslie Knope. You're gonna need it!

6. Este Pizza

Garrett and I stumbled on this hip eatery and I was instantly sold. It felt like I was transported a joint in a much bigger city like San Fran, or even New York (And it's not just my NYC withdrawals talking.) Good pizza, hip customers... a nice addition to downtown.

7. Susan Boyle

I've watched the Youtube clip. You've watched the Youtube clip. Every time I see Susan Boyle's performance on Britain's Got Talent (yes, it's been viewed more than once) I'm moved my her quiet confidence and raw talent. In a world that has become conditioned to package artists and sex appeal, it's refreshing when someone breaks the mold and shakes our cynical judgmental nature. You go girl!

8. Southparkstudios.com

I don't have Comedy Central but that doesn't mean I have to miss out on the funny. For as long as South Park has been on the air, it has never lost it's bite and it's LMAO ability. Usually by now I would have lost interest (Friends, Will & Grace, The Simpsons all come to mind) but I'm still logging in to check out the fresh shenanigans and see what the boys have learned this week. And more importantly what they taught us.

9. Meghan McCain &

Gov. John Huntsman Jr.

No, your eyes do not deceive you, I do have Republicans on my Love List, but this isn't just any old Republicans. In recent interviews John McCain's daughter has impressed me with her intelligence, her common sense and her bravery. (It takes some balls to say what she's said) And I couldn't be happier with Utah's Governor. He played a crucial role in improving our 'quirky' (to put it nicely) liquor laws and also supported equality and human rights. He is not a politician, but a true leader. Kudos Meghan and Gov. Huntsman for showing me it's possible to still respect Republicans now-a-days.

12. Halo by Beyonce

I'm not a huge Beyonce fan and truth be told I couldn't stand this song at first. But some how this song grew on me and has climbed it's way into my heavy rotation playlist. At least there's not a billion wannabe's spoofing it on SNL and Youtube, forever over exposing it to the masses (cough*Single Ladies*cough) and I'm sticking by my enjoyment of this song.

13. "Teabagging"

No not the stupid rallies being thrown all over the country. The other thing... that causes me to giggle whenever new reports of (Fox New Channel Sponsored) Teabagging parties are mentioned. It's the joke that keeps on giving, and will never get old. I'll drink to that!
