Between the Winter blues and hearing not-so-great news, I needed a way to find some extra smiles this month. And the precious critters of Animal Planet's Too Cute did just the trick. The series features several breeds of puppies and kitties and their coming of age stories. If your heart doesn't melt watching the fluffy and furry four legged friends, well you have no soul. And if you need even more adorable overload head on over to the Kitten Cam. Smile accomplished.
From realms both Earth bound and heavenly. Ru summoned her legendary Goddesses; Calling upon the four elements of Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent. Mere mortals were sickened by their beauty. The Titans of tucking... Goddesses of glamour... Deities of devastation. Have Show Themselves. And. let. us. have. it!
P.S. My Top 3 are Detox, Alaska, and a tie between Jinkx and Roxxxy for third place.
My friend Shila and I took in Django Unchained at Brewvies; one of my favorite local theaters. It follows Django "the-J-is-silent", a freed slave, whom with the help of a German bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner. The movie is unmistakeably very Tarantino, which might explain why I enjoyed it so much. Although it has a pretty long running time, the amazing A-list cast more than made up for it! . Django easily made it on to my all time favorite flicks list.
New Album of the Month! I'm happy for the return of my favorite Canadian indie-rock twin duo and their seventh(!) new album release! Some of my favorite Heartthrob tracks include: Closer, Goodbye, Goodbye, I'm Not Your Hero, Shock to Your System... Hell, I might as well list the whole album, because the entire thing was on heavy rotation all month long!
Sure, I liked her before, but this month I found a whole new level of appreciation for Miss Lana Del Rey's amazing work. If you follow my Spotify (especially the last week alone) you already know I'm obsessed. If not, you do now!
Everyone loves Homeland, right? It is the most critically acclaimed award winning TV show of the year after all. Well, I decided to check out what all the fuss was about. The series follows Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody, who returns home eight years after going missing in Iraq. Carrie Mathison, a driven CIA officer, suspects he might be plotting an attack on America. I'm half way through season one and impatiently waiting for Netflix to send me Disc #3. All I can say is I'm hooked! And I've been promised it just gets better!
My beloved Marina sent me two Valentine's this month. First came the announcement that her USA tour would have a stop in Salt Lake City this Spring! Whoo hoo! As if that wasn't enough she sent out this awesome bonus song download to all her fans. What's not to L.O.V.E.?
I've been a fan of E!'s Fashion Police for years but haven't been a regular watcher until now. Thanks to my parent's DVR upgrade that allows for a few of my favorite TV shows to be recorded as well; It's not all drag races (the kinds with the actual race cars) and the Bachelor anymore! With awards season red carpets in overload this month, no better time to watch Giuliana, George, Kelly and especially Joan wisecrack all over the fashions of the stars with segments like Bitch Stole My Look!, Starlet or Streetwalker? and Rack Report!
Song of the Month.
Turn up your speakers all the way... and then press Play.
(The rest of the album is great as well.)
A delicious and healthy sweet-tooth alternative to that pint of Ben and Jerry's you're craving come 9:00pm.
My favorite movie of 2012 came out on DVD this month... and of course I had to buy it. But my love of Perks didn't stop there. I also downloaded the accompanying critically acclaimed soundtrack as well, featuring favorites hits like Heros, Come on Eileen and Dear God.
My Official New* Band Discovery of the Month!
*To me, anyway.
Well, I might as well list all of their songs at rate I'm going.
Think Wallace and Gromit, only with Pirates. What's not to love? The Pirate Captain sets out on a mission to defeat his rivals for the Pirate of the Year Award. Adventures ensue. Arrrgh! You may have missed, but the movie was actually nominated along better known flicks like Brave, Frankenweenie, Wreck-It Ralph and Paranorman for Best Animated Feature of the Year. Sadly it was no match for a Scottish princess and failed to take home the booty, I mean Oscar. Blimey!
I was curious to learn more about Little Edie after Jinkx Monsoon's challenge-winning RPDR Snatch Game performance. Grey Gardens was a 1975 film documentary featuring Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale, "Big Edie" and her daughter Edith "Little Edie", whom were the aunt and first cousin to first lady Jackie O, respectively. The two women lived together at Grey Gardens, a decrepit mansion, for decades with limited funds in increasing squalor and isolation. You can watch the entire fascinating documentary HERE. It was also made into a HBO movie starring Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore in 2009. Thanks Jinkxy for educating the children! Fascinating!
