The Rose City has always held a special place in my heart, ever since I visited my friend Renee a handful of times during the mid 2000's. (No I don't hold the mono or food poisoning against it.) It is a visually stunning city filled with unique and quirky residents. A fact that Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein take full advantage in this hilarious sketch driven comedy. "Portland is almost like an alternative universe. It's like Gore '01. Bush administration never happened!" The dream of the 90's is alive in Portland-portland--portland! So sit back, enjoy and welcome to Portlandia!

What's not to love!? It definitely gets my vote!

Honestly, it's hard to believe that 30 Rock has made it to season six(!) However, NBC pulled a cruel joke of it's own this year delaying new episodes until mid-season. But now that wait is finally over and I'm happily reunited with Liz Lemon and the rest of the TGS gang! Partnered with Parks and Recreation, Up All Night and The Office... Thursday nights are finally must see TV again in my house. Now pass the night cheese, please!

After falling hard for Portlandia, I decided to check out IFC's other dark-comedy offering. TIPDoTM reunites two hilarious Arrested Development alumni. Tobias and GOB Bluth together again... What's not to love?! Cummon! David Cross is Todd Margaret; an American who gets a promotion from his boss [Will Arnett] to manage sales of terrible energy drink [Thunder Muscle] in England... despite being unqualified and having no experience with British culture. Oh and he is indisputably the world's worst liar. How do you think he got the job in the first place?

This song (and the accompanying music video) were my very first unofficial favorite thing of 2012. There was nothing shady about how much I enjoyed it! If this is any indication, I can't wait to see what other rocktastic work the Scissor Sisters put forth this year! See (and listen) to it HERE.

A Hawaiian land baron attempts to re-connect with his daughters after his wife suffers a devastating boating accident. Not the happiest movies of year, but between the tears, there are many laughs as well. The Descendants has been nominated for a slew of awards this season. Out of the flicks I've seen thus far, it is my Oscar pick for Best Picture... and also Best Actor statue for Mr. Clooney, who's as good as always. Plus as an added bonus, I loved all the Hawaiian scenery-- and on a cold winter January day, who doesn't appreciate seeing stunning Kauai on the big screen!

Filmmaker Ryan James Yezak launched an online fundraising trailer for Second Class Citizens, his planned documentary about the gay rights movement this month. Instantly, it blew up all over the blogosphere. (And rightly so!) I was moved beyond words watching the seven minute video, I can't wait for the eventual feature-length film. It just reminded me how far we've come, but how far we have to go in this the civil rights issue of my generation. See it HERE.

Martin Scorsese's latest epic love-letter to Hollywood's golden era was magical and beautiful journey. A breathtaking film indeed. I'm so happy I got to see it on the big screen. I can see why this is very popular this awards season. Be sure to check it out given the chance!

I know many of you have been fans for ages now, but this month I finally got to experience Louis CK; watching his comedy special Hilarious on Netflix. And I'm happy to report it lived up to the name. I get it now. He's a funny guy and a gifted comedian. What took me so long to jump on board? He's dirty and hilarious... the perfect combination... and I can't wait for more!

Is it wrong that I was rooting for the monkeys?

While I'm still hooked on Words with Friends, and enjoy Hanging With Friends-- the new iPhone With Friends addiction is Scramble With Friends. I'm not very good at it yet, but getting better each round. Look me up and let's get our "Boggle" on!

In this incredible documentary we follow an adorable little loggerhead turtle on her extraordinary life journey. From the beaches of Florida to the miles of ocean travel that await, not to mention the many hazards she faces along the way. Nature never ceases to amaze me. Earth is truly an extraordinary and inspiring place. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.

So yah, the All-Star Season of Top Model turned into a disappointing bust (Tyra, you're out!) -- I still have high hopes for the Project Runway edition. And while Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are M.I.A., it's still great to reconnect with some of the previous season's most memorable contestants. Come on designers, make it work. Today you're in, and hopefully tomorrow I won't be telling you 'Aufwiedersehen'. (For the record, Team Mondo. I know you were wondering.)

Huffington Post, Dlisted, Towleroad, and EW are just a few of my daily dot-com must visit sites. This month Buzzfeed joined the ranks of my favorite (SFW) spots on the web! A great time waster and hours of entertainment await!

Normally I'm not big into baseball movies (or high school wresting team movies for that matter) but I decided to check out these critically acclaimed sports-themed flicks on DVD this month. Brad Pitt (in Moneyball) and Paul Giamatti (in Win Win) were fantastic (as usual). They are truly two of the best actors of this generation. These weren't my absolute favorite movies of the year, but still both definitely worth checking out.

I dare you to try one of their amazing fresh out-of-the-oven old fashioned donuts... and stay on your diet. It's not going to happen. Maybe being fat isn't so bad after all. Nom nom nom.

I don't know if it's a sign of me getting older... or just wiser (I'd like to think the later) but this year I managed to do the majority of my holiday shopping online. I just couldn't handle the Christmas crowds; and the few in-store purchases I did actually make, were on days-off of work during the week. I really don't know why everyone doesn't just buy online. My favorite webstore had to be Amazon. You can find almost anything there, and no waiting in line while some old lady writes a check. Plus it's always like a little surprise when your special delivery arrives. Mail over mall any day!

{3}Friends With Benefits

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis charmed the pants off me in this funny romantic comedy. Figuratively speaking anyway. They had great chemistry, and played well off each other. (She is quickly becoming one of my ultimate faves!) The rest of the cast as just as hilarious! Woody Harrelson especially deserves a mention. I was surprised as just how much I enjoyed this flick. A great choice for movie night with your loved one or with your friends (regular, or the kind with benefits.) Or in my case, with your cats.

{4}Demetri's 'Music of the Year'

I have two go-to friends in my life that keep me 'current' and hook me up with amazing music suggestions. (Both of which have been mentioned on Love List before.) This month was no different, as my friend Demetri published his Albums and Songs of the Year Playlists. Once I had my fix of Christmas songs (via #9) and Robyn (#7; act surprised!) I had moved on to a continuous loop of fresh and fabulous tunes. Thanks DJDemetri for turning me onto the 2011 work of YACHT, The Whip, Metronomy, Lykke Li, Holy Ghost!, Friendly Fires and Sound of Arrows (to name a few) along with previous faves like Florence + The Machine and Monarchy. I'll be enjoying this ultimate playlist well into 2012! Check out these bands, they're awesome! (If you have Spotify I have them saved there.)

Old drafty houses should be required to come with such comfy winter attire! I LOVE wearing my new pants [in the privacy of my own home.] Well full disclosure just once, only once ever in public to the grocery store. A fact I'm not particularly proud of but what I lacked in style points, I made up in comfort. They're great, I may or may not be wearing them as we speak!

{7}Robyn

This month I rediscovered, or rather more correctly, 're-obsessed' over Robyn. After her amazaballs SNL Performances [1 and 2], she earned a spot back on heavy repeat (when I need to take a break from the Christmas tunes.) She is such a creative and passionate artist, who is just fun watch do her thing. She should be way more famous than she is. She's a superstar! Other Robyn highlights this month included the music video for Call Your Girlfriend and the song Stars 4-Ever. Werq momma!

{8}Nog

It's just not the season without this annual holiday treat! This year, however, I graduated from the standard dairy version to the Silk brand Nog. Mmmm Soy! It's like Christmas in a cup, and probably a good thing it's only available once a year, to keep my belly from rolling like a bowl full of jelly. (Well more than it already does.)

{9}Pandora

Sure I love Spotify, Slacker and iTunes, but hands down the best Christmas music source of the year goes to Pandora! (And it's convenient on the go iPhone app.) It took me a while to jump on the Pandora bandwagon, but I'm glad I finally did. In addition to festive tunes, especially now that the season is over, they have great channels for work out music! Perfect for cardio at the gym and all your (er, rather my) New Year resolutions.

{10}Salt Lake City at Night

Sure everyone knows (at least I think they do) about the world famous Temple Square Christmas lights displays, but they are not the only ones with holiday spirit. The downtown area transforms itself with twinkling lights lining the streets each year. Other jolly spots include The Gallivan Plaza and The Gateway shopping district. (Which had an AMAZING tree this year!) It's so easy to get into the holiday spirit when you live in a beautiful festive city!

Every year one of the things I look forward to is the annual DJ Earworm's United States of Pop 2011: World Go Boom. This mash-up includes the likes of Adele, Bruno Mars, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. So I actually had a pretty good Christmas this year. I spent X-mas Eve night relaxing with my boys on my lap, enjoying some holiday beverages of my choice and my bachelor home 'cooked' dinner, while watching movies under my warm Grandma Bernice blanket. (A Christmas Story, again!?) I woke up the next morning and drove to spend the day with my family. Car-load of presents and all! (Seriously, how does Santa do it?) The girls loved all of their gifts, which put a big smile on my face... even if Santa didn't leave me what I really wanted. There's always next year! Are you listening big guy?!

So it's no secret that my favorite part about the X-mas season has to be the festive holiday transformations and decorations that happen in (and outside) our abodes. And this year was no different! Scott and Jenn threw their annual Ugly Sweater Xmas Party again this year, and I was happy to attend. After a last minute search of the valley for a #winning wardrobe this was the best I could do. (Or rather my cheap ass would allow.) Lesson learned, buy your ugly Christmas sweaters in July, before the price jumps to $30(!!) Incidentally, I settled on the okay sweater for only $22... but I still had a great time even if I had to work early the next morning. It was worth it!

December has been a month of some great quality time with my girls. I got to watch them at my big city apartment (which they love!) not once, but twice full of movies, internet games, and dance parties. (We didn't get the chance to have a sleep over yet, but when I'm prepared physically and mentally we'll tackle that event!) We made some fun holiday crafts. (Santa and his reindeer were a personal favorite of mine.) Oh and I got to spoil them rotten. (Just like every other month of the year, but this month it came in the form of their own personal purple Christmas tree? How many of your uncles bought you one of those?) I love my Bubbas and Sadester.

Well I'm finally caught up on all the craziness in one of my all-time TV obsessions. While other favorites in the past have puttered out creatively at this point (*cough Weeds *cough!) Breaking Bad is still going strong. The twists and the turns are amazing, and I can't wait to see where they take me when Season 5 returns next Summer. I feel like I can't wait that long for another hit though, does that make me an addict?

For the record I am not anti-real trees, I just find my artificial ones in my basement far more convenient (and already paid for). Besides, they're already up and twinkling beautifully. I like to get a head start on the holidays, what can I say? However, just because I'm done with mine, doesn't mean that I wasn't all for heading to the mountains of Wyoming (on Saturday) with friends as they searched for the perfect pine. (You didn't think I wouldn't take the opportunity to post that scene from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, now would you?) It was actually a lot of fun and the perfect day. Sunshine and glorious... plus the hike in the snow was a great workout, especially after stuffing my face at Thanksgiving the day before. I think we started a tradition though. Who knows, maybe next year I'll join the real-tree bandwagon! Or at least go along for the ride.

This year the Peterson clan invited me to their Turkey Day festivities, and I must say... Best. Thanksgiving. Ever! Thank you Sam and Emily for opening up your beautiful home to the masses... and gracias to all those who supplied the uhmazingly scrumptious food. (There went the diet plan for the week!) I adore y'all and am so happy to be included and feel so loved by your family! (Don't worry my family dinner was just postponed to Sunday when everyone could attend.)

I had a mental block on costumes ideas this year. Hell, I usually know by August. September at the latest... not this year! With time running out, Shila called me on Halloween Eve and finally suggested going as the music group LMFAO. Perfect! (We already had the afro-wigs after all. It was either that or going as groovy 70's swingers. This sounded much more fun!) So with less than 24-hours to spare we threw together this funktastic look. I was literally making the shirt at 10:30pm Sunday night. Not too shabby...but just think of what we could have done with more time. We looked so fab we decided to throw an impromptu photo shoot with our other spirited co-workers. Even if we weren't in Miami (trick) it was still a pretty fun Halloween at work.

This new FX Series was on my radar a few months ago when I saw the creepy teaser poster online. I was intrigued... even though I'm not usually a big fan of scary movies (or TV shows for that matter.) Living in a century(+) old house will do that to you... but I finally decided to dive in and now I'm loving it! It's my new favorite show! AHS centers on the Harmon family: Ben, Vivien and their daughter Violet, who move from Boston to Los Angeles after Vivien has a miscarriage and Ben has an affair. They move into a restored mansion, unaware that the home is haunted. (It's better known as the "Murder House" on the Eternal Darkness tour.) So be sure to check it out... If you dare!

Oh great yet another Internet addiction! What the hell is Pinterest you ask? Well, it's a fun way to learn about your friends and what they enjoy. Basically you make and share collections of stuff you like via personalized pinboards. Browsing them is a fun way to discover new things and get ideas from people who share your interests. (I've borrowed two craft ideas for my girls already!) So request an invite and see what makes me tick and get inspired at the same time!

With season six now underway, it dawned on me that holy hell, Miami has a HUGE serial killer problem... and each year they just get more and more WTF crazy, and this go-a-round is no different. [See: Horseman killing(!!)] So hang on tight as Dexter takes on the scariest twisted nemeses yet: Religious nut jobs! As for Atlanta... well they still have an even BIGGER zombie problem.

When he quietly came out in a New York magazine interview this month, I gained so much respect and appreciation for his courage and commitment to live an authentic life. Publicly stepping out of the closet is hard enough for anyone, but when when it comes to famous Hollywood folk, it's rarely done. I look forward to the day when such news isn't even news. Until we get there, my hat goes off to Mr. Quinto for being vulnerable and being the change he wants to see in the world. By all accounts he is receiving 'overwhelming' fan support in his decision to do so. (Tides they are a changin'!) And for the record my long-time crush has officially soared to a whole new level.

{7}Hocus Pocus

With all the horror themed additions to this month's list, I needed a less scurry way to celebrate Halloween...so I went old-school with a classic from my childhood. I forgot how much I enjoyed this family friendly film. I smell children! Bette, Sarah and Kathy are hilarious as the wicked sistahs. They put a spell on me and served as a fun break from terrifying haunted houses and major outbreaks of the undead. Check out the seriously old school trailer HERE.

I finally got around to seeing one Summer's biggest blockbusters, even if I had to do it on the small screen. All I can say is that Chris Evans can save my country any day. USA. U S A!

{9}Downtown Salt Lake City

Earlier this month, I house (and dog) sat for my parents (for a week) while they were out of town. This resulted in many things: Long commutes to-and-from work, early morning alarm clocks, and a case of major exhaustion. At least it confirmed one more thing: I was meant to be an urban city boy and that small towns are not for me. Rural splural. I was so happy at the end of it all when I drove back into downtown, got see my boys again and curl up in my own bed. Home sweet home!

House Hunters International

While I was house-sitting I got sucked into several marathons of HGTV's popular realty TV show. Basic premise, a couple looks at three options for a new home purchase (sometimes in a location overseas, hence the International part.) Will they choose option number one, which needs work, number two that is in a bad area or option three which is over budget. I have an impressive track record too, I usually am pretty good at guessing which they select. Plus it's fun for the follow-up to see what they do with their new home sweet home!

{11}Baby Showers

With lil' Lucy's arrival date right around the corner, I attended to not one, but two baby showers this month. In fact I was a co-co-helper in throwing first Halloween-themed one. (Mostly it was just designing the invitation and helping out with decorations.) So yah, based on my experience (two to date)... these weren't your Mommy's baby showers-- we broke all the rules. Men were invited. Tasty food and tastier wine. Limited lame games. Oh and baby bottle beer chugging contest! (Brilliant Candace!) It was just enjoyable afternoons with the parents-to-be... but in addition to all the fun, I think Lucy racked up some great gifts. We're all excited to meet you Baby Girl. Not to much longer to wait now!

She's been MIA on the Love List for the past few months, so I know you've been going through Gaga withdrawals. Well, while technically this isn't Lady Gaga herself, it is a fan who came up with this brilliant video celebrating every one's favorite time of year. It's very well done and quite clever. I took in a post-work matinee of The Help this past month, after my first choice Drive's show- times didn't work with my schedule. The movie has been around for weeks and I'd heard nothing but positive reviews, all which turned out to be true. Based on the best selling novel, it is the story of a group of maids who help a young writer tell their story of living and working in the segregated South. The Help was inspiring, moving, touching... and funny. It also reminded me about our country's ugly past, and the prejudices that we've overcome... and the ones we have yet to. (Just because a majority of people believe something, doesn't make it right!) It takes courage to stand up to make a positive change in this world. And I'm thankful that there are those brave enough to actually do it. If you haven't already, you must see this movie!

Do It In The A.M.

Even though Frankmusik's sophomore album only dropped on September 27th, you wouldn't know it by the number of plays it's already racked up. I absolutely love the new indie-electro-pop tunes! Sadly, I was unaware that he also opened for Erasure in Salt Lake City that very same day, and consequentially missed a chance to see him perform live. Just think of how much more rad that would have been! Regardless, even just coming out of my speakers, it's another Win from one of my favorite new artists! I'll be playin' it in the A.M... and the P.M!

{4}Bridesmaids on DVD

If you have any doubt just how much I love this movie, comes this fact: Bridesmaids is the first DVD that I have purchased this year... and it's now October! It's just as good as it was on the big screen, if not better. At home you get all kinds of hilarious extras, in addition to the side-splittingly funny comedy with a huge heart. Back when it came out in May I gladly said, "I Do" and this month I got to renew my vows.

I'm pretty new to Spotify-- but already pretty addicted (and admittedly I'm still just figuring it all out!) As I learn more about its capabilities and use it to it's full potential, I will enjoy a world of music even more! Millions of tracks any time you like. Just search for it, then play it. Help yourself to whatever you want, whenever you want it. What's not to love?

Ms. Banks draws me in just when ANTM was on my TV show chopping block, to make room for new and fresh shows. She brought back some of our favorite fierce former competitors for an All-Star edition. (Team Kayla!) Damn you Tyra!! Breaking up is so hard to do, but Top Model gets another guilty-pleasure pass, for at least one more season anyway. Glee and The Office might not be so lucky.

Congratulations to my beautiful BFF Tonya and her handsome new hubby Conrad! It was an honor to be included in your special day as one of your Bride's Man. It was a wonderful wedding weekend. Three jam packed days of rehearsals and rehearsal dinners and ceremonies and luncheons and receptions and open houses, oh my!... and lets not forget about a few open bars! Fugitive, celebrity, slacker, joker, alien. This month I finally got around to checking out Paul on DVD (after failed attempts to actually see it on the big screen this past Spring). Two British comic-book geeks traveling across the U.S. encounter an alien smart-ass outside Area 51. It boasts an impressive cast, including Love List All-Star Kristen Wiig. Seriously... lurve her! If there are any candidates for second movie purchase of the year, this might just be the front runner. That just goes to show how much I enjoyed it. Rent it tonight, and don't forget to pick up some Reese's Pieces while your out.

Nothing But the Beat

Anyone that can get me to like a Chris Brown song (trickery!) earns a spot on my Love List. Seriously, the whole album is fantastic and Nothing But the Beat is a perfect booty shakin' addition to my cardio workout playlist. Another job well done Mr. Guetta!

September 4, 2011 | My dear friend Tonya married her sweetheart (and baby Daddy) Conrad, on a gorgeous Sunday morning. I had the honor of being asked to be one of her Bride's Men; along with pals Jake and Garrett... and Conrad had his Best Whoa-Man, Jenn as well. (This wasn't your standard Utah wedding, to say the least!) The happy couple said their I Do's at Log Haven, up Millcreek Canyon, with the stunning Wasatch Mountains as a background. And the party didn't stop there. Between the rehearsal dinner, wedding, luncheon, reception and open house-- this was a full fledged weekend extravaganza! And they deserved it! Tonya and Conrad, I wish you a lifetime of happiness, joy, hot sex (!), good health, laughter and oodles of happy family memories. Please enjoy a few snapshots (that I mostly stole from Tonya's Facebook. Thanks Kenny and Rick!) It was a weekend that I'm sure we'll all remember. For those of you that don't, You Don't Know Jack is essentially a trivia game; but this ain't your Momma's trivial pursuit. It's sassy. It's fun. And it's also educational. Learn while you laugh! On a recent App Store shopping spree I stumbled upon it and quickly confirmed purchase. No iPhone is complete without it. Worth every penny. (Two hundred and ninety nine of them to be exact.)

It was great spending a relaxing evening reliving some major blasts from my past (albeit usually chopped up into three segments, but still fun regardless)

{14}Brand New TRAX Trains

When Trooper broke down earlier this month I was grateful that I live close to a light rail stop, and work next to one too-- and both in the free-zone no less! UTA debuted brand new trains during this same period (in conjunction with the opening of the two newly completed TRAX lines.) I was lucky to ride in one of them to work and was very impressed. Roomy and clean, plush seats and large windows for your viewing pleasure; a boy could get use to this. But I still prefer having my own wheels. Thankfully public transportation is just a back-up plan. But it's good to know that fancy TRAX is still an option. All-aboard!

Don't judge! So yes, I have a Summer TV guilty pleasure. Big Brother. (Shhhhh!) Again, don't judge! At least it's not Jersey Shore! Anyway, this year I was rooting for returning vet Daniele. Not only was she the best game player; she was also witty and entertaining... lets not forget, stunningly hot. Well things didn't go too well for my fave as she was backdoor'd/stabbed-in-the-back/and thrown-under-the-bus [use the reality-TV catchphrase of your choice] and she was sent packing last week. With no one else to root for in the house, I can finally move on to more important things... like the return of quality Fall TV... and Top Model: All Stars. (Shhhhh!)

It's hard to believe that six years today I was sitting in a hospital watching Katrina's destruction unfold on the TV as I welcomed my first niece into the world. Flash forward today, and here I sit wishing my Bubbas a Happy Happy Birthday (as the news covers Hurricane Irene in the background.)
It's a question I ask all the time, but seriously-- where does the time go. I mean, she just started First Grade(!) for Pete Sake! I love you Brylee, you will always hold a major chunk of my heart. I'm proud to be your (favorite) Uncle! Have the happiest of days and enjoy Six. It's a good year!

Today my Bubbas officially earned 'Big Kid' status on her first day of First Grade! I was told that she was very excited to start in her (brand) new Elementary School, and even more so that one of her best friends was in her class. It's funny, it seems like just yesterday I was the one learning in Mrs. Addy's classroom, and now it's her turn to enjoy the post-Kindergarten era. Love you Bry! Earlier this month the young-at-heart Trooper came down with a bad Starter and was put out of commission for a nearly two weeks. Thankfully it broke down while parked at home. Plus, I live close to public transportation, so it wasn't too big of an inconvenience. I'd like to thank my Dad and Brother for assisting me with the repairs. And Shila for the occasional ride to work (and tuxedo fitting.) But it's good to have my wheels back, I must say! Welcome home big guy!

I've been wanting to see Crazy, Stupid, Love for months. Uh, hello you had me at Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone(!) So opening weekend I took in a post work solo-matinee. I simply adored this romantic comedy about the ups and downs of love. The ensemble cast is as fantastic as you would expect from such a stellar lineup. It easily made it's way onto my All Time Favorite Movies List and also, the top spot on this one! To quote Entertainment Weekly, "You'd be crazy (and kinda stupid) not to love it" and to that I say "Ditto."

{2}Web Therapy on Showtime

I've been a fan of this web-series for ages now (see!) so imagine my delight when Showtime decided to turn it into a full-fledged half hour dark comedy. Lisa Kudrow has never been better as Fiona Wallice, an uncredited shrink who treats her patients via 3-minute web cam sessions. ("In the standard 50 minute ones, people would just go on and on about feelings and dreams and memories and past experiences that add up to a whole lot of nothing as far as she's concerned.") The series is highly improved and highly hilarious... and proves Dr. Wallice wrong. In some (nut)cases, more is better.

Jake Gyllenhaal. Okay, what more reason do you need to run out the door and head to your nearest Redbox? Okay well in the awesome thriller Source Code, Jakey (as I like to call him) goes back in time relives the same eight minutes over and over (and over) again in an attempt to stop a terrorist attack in my beloved Chicago. Oh and did I mention that it stars Jake Gylenhaal? Yup, be sure to check it out. I loved it!

I love San Francisco, it's one of my all time favorite cities. I am also very interested in history. So when I caught this CBS feature story on the Internet I was instantly hooked. A simple movie filmed more than a hundred years ago along San Francisco's main thoroughfare, Market Street. It is a time traveler's glimpse on the brink of disaster. Completely fascinating! I'm a bit sad inside to say goodbye to the queens when each season of Drag Race ends. RuPaul's spin-off show to the rescue! Not throwing shade or anything, it might not be as fantabulously fierce as Drag Race, but the likes of Pandora, Manilla Luzon, Raven, Morgan McMichaels, Jujubee and Ongina will keep me heading back to school for more. (Not picking favorites here or anything.) Class is in session.

Fun Fact: I first saw The Birdcage in 1997 while on a wholesome blind double date at my cousin's apartment at BYU and this movie really is the only thing that I remember from the evening. (Well other than the Denny's Moons Over My Hammy I ordered for dinner. Damn that ham was tasty.) Anywho, I'm not sure if The Birdcage made it's way on to any of their Love Lists, but I still enjoy it all after all these years. The 90-minute (!) conversation, complete with two live performances, was the most fascinating, detailed and insightful interview I've ever heard her give to date. Even though my crystal ball always predicted pink, this month it was confirmed to the masses courtesy a very tasty cake at a cute gender-reveal party. Yes, my best friends are finally having their bundle of joy, later this year. She's going to be one lucky little girl, that is for sure... and lawdsy, she'll be here before we know it!

On July 11th my brother-from-another-mother Scott was injured when a train and a semi collided in North Salt Lake. You may have heard about it on the NEWS. He's survived pretty banged up but all things considered, pretty well off. We all know about how tough those Peterson kids heads are, but apparently they are totally indestructible. (Good news!) Sending him love and light for a speedy recovery, the world wouldn't be the same without him.

*Update: 7/19/11: Scott is still in the hospital and has a (hopefully) surgery on his leg yesterday. Still sending mass amounts of love his way!

I love looking back through old family photo albums a lot recently. I love to see snapshots of my parents and witness their lives before kids came along and their identities became "Dad" and "Mom". I'm glad that my parents are still around I have come to appreciate each and every birthday, holiday and milestone I'm fortunate to share with them. Musical 'Soundtrack'

You may have heard a little something about this record breaking-much-raved about-Tony award winning new Broadway musical this month. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but it has been on my radar for a long while now. (Just sayin'.) Sadly, I have no immediate trips to the Big Apple planned (nor a extra $487 lying around) so when the tunes from the smash hit became available on iTunes I gobbled it up like a big bowl of green Jell-o with carrot sprinkles. (Sorry, Mormon joke.) Hearing this brilliant and hysterical music will just have to hold me over until I get to actually see it. I can't recommend it enough, by golly, it is perfection.*
*Unless you won't watch South Park, are not a fan of cussin' or don't have the ability to laugh at yourself. If that is the case, please pass over this entry and skip directly to #2.

{2}My Extreme Home Makeover

Last month I debated on whether to extend my apartment's lease or move. I really needed something new to kick-start my life and wondered if it was time for a change of address. Due to a lack of any affordable/decent alternatives-- the choice was made for me. I decided to stay put a little while longer. My need for cha-cha-changes however was still there. So I did the next best thing; rearrange and redecorate. I love the new feel of my home-sweet-home. Bonus: Not having to come up with a security deposit or pack any boxes. Huzzah! 'AFTER' photos will be shared soon so stay tuned. Or just come by and see it for yourself.

This is the kind of History Channel program that I love. (Don't even get me started on those American-Picking-Ax-Men-and-the-Swamp-People-of-Gangland loads of crap. Ugh!) HTSGTS is fascinating, informative and quite addictive history lesson. It's the kind of stuff we should have been taught in school. Finally, the History channel lives up its name. And hot host Brian Unger isn't too shabby either. U-S-A! U-S-A!

I rarely get to watch this host's late-late night talk show, but after stumbling upon his recent stand-up comedy special [via Netflix], I was reminded what a funny mother hugger he is. I was rolling with laughter with each and every uncensored joke and F bomb. (and there are many!) Needless to say-- special is NSFM. Otherwise, check it out and enjoy! Neil Patrick Harris

Is there anything he can't do? No stranger to the Love List, NPH is one of the hardest working, most talented actors in show business today. (Oh, and did I forget... charming as hell?!) I think he should be required to host every Awards Show for the foreseeable future. His Tony's opening number alone was hysterically divine. It's great to see a child actor that didn't get ruined by Hollywood, and is now one of it's brightest stars.

Maybe just because I'm getting up there in age, but I totally am obsessed with the vintage package design trend that seems to be going around lately. Every time I see a new retro-product, it makes me feel all warm and nostalgic inside. Old is the new New.

{12}Ira Glass

Honestly, I was unfamiliar with Ira Glass when my friend Jake invited me to hear him speak last weekend, but after a few Google and Youtube searches I realized that Mr. Glass was right up my alley. He is a entertaining and captivating radio personality and an NPR favorite. After spending an evening with him, I was hooked. I can't wait to check out more from This American Life, which he hosts and produces. Good stuff, people!

This surely isn't your little niece's animated feature. Mary and Max is the the story of two unlikely pen pals; a lonely 8-year-old Australian, Mary Daisy Dinkle and Max Jerry Horowitz, an obese New Yorker with mental health issues. The movie covers such themes as childhood neglect, teasing, loneliness, Asperger's Syndrome, suicide, obesity, depression and anxiety. (See I told you that it wasn't THAT kind of cartoon!) That being said, I loved this adorable, creative and charming look at friendship. Plus I simply adore claymation. it is one of my favorite mediums in film. Available on Netflix: Instant Watch.

Antelope Aloha...

Shila and I have worked in the hospitality tourism industry for [--] years now, and we've never even made it to a spot that we recommend quite often to out-of-towners. Well we finally decided to spend a sunny Saturday at Antelope Island State Park. After a stop at the small gift store for some essential (and pricey) bug spray we made our way to the beach, yes the beach. Granted this isn't Hawaii or California, but for Utah standards it was surprisingly nice. We hadn't planned very well (again, no bug spray, shoes-not-sandals, no towels ect.) but we still ventured out into the Salty Lake-- as far as our fears of wet iPhones would allow us. Funny enough, there were no antelope sitings but there were plenty of bison to behold. Especially when two beasts wandered on to the beach area. (I did have an escape plan; head for the water, while running in circles. Shush, it sounded good at the time) All and all it was a great way to spend an afternoon, if you ever want to check out the Salt Lake this is definitely the place. Just make sure you have some Deet and whatever repels buffalo.

My friend Scott rode his bike down from Canada on a vacation through the western USA last week, with a pit stop in good ol' Salt Lake City [on Sunday June 20th]. Of course, I had to do what any good friend would do and play amateur tour guide for my hometown. We hit up all the obvious landmarks like Capitol Hill, Temple Square, and of course Squatter's. After a day of torrential rains, the sun came out as if Jesus himself was saying 'Welcome to my hood.' Despite it's reputation, Salt Lake really is an amazing, clean and beautiful city. I'm happy to show it off.

*And for the record, the top photo was not altered in any way, that is just how it turned out when I took a picture of the big house. Hmmm... Regardless, I love it.

I got to spend another fantastic Memorial Day weekend in the Windy City. After a crazy start (-nearly missed flight- missing bags, Oy!) it was all uphill from there; a much deserved break from the real world. I enjoyed catching up with friends and had a great time. As the weekend wrapped up I got to entertain myself and so some solo-sightseeing in the Loop. (A fact my Mom only learned of when I was back safe and sound on Utah soil.) So, what happens when I got to spend an entire (hot) day exploring downtown? Well, other than a sweaty tank top... a few hundred snapshots. Here I present to you the best of the best. Great Day for a Parade...

This year Pride was bigger and better than ever before. Change is happening before our eyes. people-- even in good ol' Salt Lake City. (That's SL,UT if you're nasty!) Thousands of people lined the new and improved parade route as (once again) Mother Nature provided the perfect backdrop for this, my most favorite day of the year [to be stuck in this state.)] I would officially like to thank Candace, Ryleigh, Erik, Chelsea, Hannah, Ellie, Matt, Lisa, Scott, Jenn, Marley and Lucas for coming out (not literally) and showing their love.
